Ivanka Trump And I Have One Thing In Common…

Ivanka’s bedroom, featured in Elle Decor.

A good quality and functional faux fur throw (with the good ones you can hardly tell the difference between real and faux!) on our beds. (Sad to say that our similarities stop there…!).

You can see a bit of a fur throw on my bed/ottoman and another on a bench in our study.

I dragged my first fur throw with me all the way from from Sweden. I don’t know where Ivanka buys hers (but I am certain they come with a hefty price tag!). I have invested in 3 more since. I buy them via ABC Collection in Stockholm. (Pick your pattern and lining and they will have one special made for you).

For our “new” master bedroom I think I would like to try something light in color, like a Lynx or Polar bear. I’m going more and more for that Swedish serene and mellow look & feel with white-gray hardwood floors and lots of white.

I have seen a lot of “not so handsome” faux furs in my days but these are like the real deal. Very, very nice. They are shiny & pretty, incredibly soft, warm, easy to clean and they last for years and years.

A person who should be purring right now, is Cheryl D. You just won our giveaway! (Random.Org randomly picked no. 11). A “For Those I Heart” Sterling Silver necklace by the talented, Swedish jewelry designer Astrid Bjork. Congratulations Cheryl! (You will also be notified via mail). A big Thank You to everyone entering!

Happy weekend friends!

Black & White & Orange/Rust

As much as I heart white and crisp rooms I also gravitate towards black and orange. (Burnt orange is also very pretty together with gray. I use those color combinations in several of my rooms). Red is pretty but too harsh for me.). A pretty black chest like this, from a flea market in Paris must move in with me soon! It adds a little drama to just about any room.

An oldie from my inspiration file. But this area is so pretty with black, white, orange and little bit of gold = timeless!

(Greet, if you see this – I envision you riding boots lined up just like that! Picture perfect!).

I recently scored this pretty, vintage handmade bust (from Denmark of all places!) at a local antiques shop. Would look pretty on that black chest. (Now it is placed on a very old Swedish chess table).

Last week was my special time at home with my kids before they head back to school and I turned my back on everything in cyberland. Coming Wednesday ALL three of my kids will be in school full time! I will have a new life! Scary and fun at the same time. (Imagine what I will get done!).

Hugs to you all.

Still time! Don’t forget to enter our store giveaway!

You might be the first one in the US to receive (or perhaps you want to give it away as a perfect gift) a handmade heart necklace designed to your own family configuration! The giveaway ends on Thursday @ midnight. Enter giveawayhere.

1 Year Store Celebration + Giveaway!

It was exactly 1 year ago that I decided to take my store to the next level (remember I started off by selling only Ilse Jacobsen’s fab boots and coats). I am proud of myself and the path I took. Now, with my new business partner, Ewa, by my side I/we are having a BLAST — every single day!

Thank you to all of you for your support and for pushing us forward!

To celebrate we are offering a 20%  discount on ALL merchandise available in our store – Splendid Avenue.

We have lots of new things!

To take advantage of the offer, use the 20% discount code: splendidone at checkout. Valid until Thursday September 6th, 2012.

A giveaway is also in order: And this is what one lucky reader/follower can win: A brand new item from our store that we are going nutty for — a “For Those I Heart” necklace.

The necklace is handmade in Sweden by the talented jewelry designer, Astrid Bjork. Sterling silver of course.

We are the first store in the US to carry this popular Swedish necklace that you have tailor made according to your family configuration. (Or perhaps this necklace is about your best friend). Bigger hearts for adults. Smaller for kids. You decide the number of hearts. And, for example, if one person is extra tall, then Astrid will make that heart extra tall. You describe the characteristics of the people/person you hold dear!

“The hearts almost become like little people”, says Astrid. “And not just any people but the one(s) you care for the most.”

How cool and unique is that! The perfect gift for any girl, Teen, Mom (or Moms to be) or Grandma!

The necklace comes in a pretty keepsake box.

This is how you enter the giveaway:

My DIY Projects Keep Piling Up

The inspiration file is staring at me — fat and un-opened. I need more hours in the day! Hopefully when all three kiddos are settled on their yellow school buses, the day after labor day, this Mama will find some time to dig into that pile. (Yes, this will be in addition to giving three bedrooms new makeovers this fall. Can we all spell b.u.s.y!).

5 Top DIY Candidates

1. A Photo Collage with old photos somewhere in my house would be fun. (I would avoid putting tacks in them, though). (Note to Stacey: perhaps something for your old Parisian gems!).

2. Ok, how fun would this be! Anybody can lend me a studio to splash around in? I would name the art piece “Blog Stressorama Relief”. Anybody care to join me?

3. Shopping for a vintage cheese-box is in the cards. I would turn it into an unique nightstand table for the guest room (we get at lot of European, cheese loving visitors!).

4. I have several very pretty Hermes scarves handed down to me from my city chic Mom. At least one of them I should have framed. They are so decorative and in my case filled with lovely memories and Mama’s perfume.

5. Ok, I get a little excited about this. This inspires me to find a GIGANTIC (5 times bigger than this), round, vintage something (a wheel?) and attach all those pretty Holiday cards for the whole family to enjoy. (It needs to be big and easy to put those cards up or it is pretty useless in my book). I envision a REALLY fantastic display piece that is so clever that it will be used for years to come my kids will fight over it one day. Yet another reason to spend more time at antiques shops and salvage yards!

Finally, my own DIY project took me a whole 30 seconds this weekend (I told you I need more hours in a day). Two old prints attached to clipboards. Voila! A small but different touch.

Hugs to you all.

Next time you will be hearing from me, we will be CELEBRATING! You’ll see!

I Go Nuts For

Lots of design things I have been going nutty over lately!

1. Tufted banquette

Most of you know that I am totally tufted (see one of my previous posts) and that I am always lusting for a casual (not contrived) bistro style dining area. I see this tufted sofa embracing the dining table and I just sigh. One day… And I want a pretty lantern too.

2. Tabletop Décor With An Impact

I will now be hunting for an old, gigantic wooden bowl – to place some (naturally shed) antlers in. Simple and pretty.

3. B/W shower curtain

Chic with wide black and white stripes. A bit dramatic.

4. Long vintage table turned desk

Brilliant! I want this as my work space! How pretty the wood is with white and black details. A desk like that can serve so many different purposes over time. (I also like that white upholstered stool underneath the table — to use as extra seating or to put feet or stuff on!).

5. White is always right

So fresh and pretty. A LOT more white is moving into my own home.

Just came across this “white” art piece by Canadian Eleanor Doran. Look closely. Being a city girl at heart (I should really be living in NY) I like tall buildings.

6. Design Chic

A must read blog driven by two wonderfully talented and stylish ladies, friends and design mavens! I have followed them from their very early blog days – their blog is filled to the brim with design inspiration. These gals always deliver.

It is an honor for me to be guest posting over at Design Chic, chatting about how to “Decorate Like A True Swede”. Please, hop over and say hello. And make sure to include their blog as a daily read!

Hop to my guest post — here. I hope you enjoy!

Warm hugs to you all.
