Little Valentine’s

I am a big fan of the blog Decor8 which I find is so inspiring. Today they posted information about the most adorable Valentine’s project from yet another great blog Inchmark. I’m trying myself – tonight!!

Just cover small match boxes with beautiful paper and decorate to your heart’s content. Pack them with litte candies or stickers – and off to school!  I can see myself decorating boxes for Easter, Halloween, Christmas…. I love the idea that the boxes can be saved and reused. And the matches will come in handy during the next power outage!

Happy Valentine’s!

I admit, I have never been a Valentine’s girl. I prefer to celebrate love on my terms and not when the media tells me to! (My poor husband does not even dare to give me anything on that day!) The only ones in our household who get some special treatment on Feb. 14th are our children and their friends.

What a perfect and lovely gift for those special little ones!

I found this handmade bowl on fabulous Etsy. The Etsy store behind it is GretchensCreations. This bowl is felted Alpaca and it costs $18.

Beautiful Rooms

House Beautiful never used to be my favorite design magazine to read but over the last 9 months or so I feel it has gone from stodgy to much more eclectic, incorporating more fun coverage of contemporary design. I now read the magazine from cover to cover and always find some pages that I rip out and save.

Here are some pages with recent “dog ears” from House Beautiful:

What a beautiful and comfy breakfast nook! The designer behind it is the talented J Randall Powers. I love the stone walls, the natural light, the stone floors, and the lantern. And the antique table and… I love it all!

Christina Rottman is another great designer. I love her guest room. I can see myself creating a similar haven for my guests. How chic with sisal on the wall. Yep, me like!

I Go Nuts For These Cups

Photo: Hans Bjurling, Sweden

I think these are the most beautiful cups on the planet. The designer behind them is talented and award winning Asa Lindstrom from Sweden. She makes the cups by hand with motifs inspired by old magazines and books. The rims are made with gold.

Only 2 places in Sweden (or the world!) carry Lindstrom’s cups. Blas & Knada in Stockholm and Halingbo Creperie on Gotland (remote island in Sweden), where Asa Lindstrom resides.

I have a few cups myself but plan to keep adding to my little collection. These cups are already considered “Swedish classics” and tomorrow’s antiques. And rightfully so. They are incredibly well made and so gorgeous.

Would you not want to step in and start looking for that perfect cup to bring home?

I found this lovely image on “En mammas dag”, a great blog in Sweden. Blogger Weronica took the photo herself. She is as hooked on the cups as I am!

Klas Fahlen – Fab Illustrator

This man is a genius. His name is Klas Fahlen. We used to go to the same school and, for a while in our rebellious years, play in the same little circle. He was, back in his school days, a terrific artist with a wonderful sense of humor. I am not a bit surprised to have learned that he today is an world known and award winning illustrator.

I found these magazine holders in the museum shop at the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm, Sweden. My lovely friend Camilla who is a leading figure at the Museum alerted me to them. I traveled back to the US with a bag full of these lovely and practical holders showing a combination of modern and historical buildings in Stockholm.

Klas Fahlen’s graphics for a Swedish Ice Cream Manufacturer are also hilarious. And his illustrations for Soul Food and a Swedish “Pippi” rebel – how can you not love them!

And the wall decal with the classy and well decorated dogs is so quirky and fun.

For more of Klas Fahlen’s fabulous work as well as his portfolio, visit the Art Department.
