The Perfect Wedding Gift Dilemma

Gunilla Dear – this is not for you to read!

My lovely friend Gunilla is getting married and I am on the hunt for that perfect wedding gift. I want it to be something she and her husband to be will treasure for life – and I want them to think of us every time they use it. I am definitely going classic & functional. Now the big question is what…

(If you have any fabulous gift ideas – please speak up. I can really use your help!)

Wedding gift candidates – so far:

Elegant Champagne Flutes from Orrefors’ Avanti collection. These glasses are made of lead-free crystal by master glassblowers and cutters in Orrefors’ Swedish glassworks.

Classic and modern salad servers from the world renowned Danish designer Arne Jacobsen for Georg Jensen.

Salad plates from Royal Copenhagen (the company was established in 1775 and this is its most recent series called Fluted Mega – a contemporary twist on the classic Flute model). The plates are assembled, painted and glazed by hand.

“Nobel” linen napkins from the Swedish linen mill “Klassbols“. These napkins are being used by distinguished guests at the prestigious Nobel Banquet, held in Stockholm annually.

Am I being too conservative? Help!

Sandell-Sandberg Gotland Summer Nest

I love Gotland – in my opinion the most incredible island on the planet! Gotland  is part of Sweden in the Baltic Sea.  My family family spent 19 summers on this rural island and I love everything about this slice of paradise – the light, the scenery, the people and the rich culture. One day I will be back and have my own little nest. One day…

You can only imagine how I drool when I see this fantastic summer house on Gotland designed by the talented architects Sandberg and Sandell. I am speechless. What a way to let the magical Gotland light into your home. How absolutely breathtaking.

This is how I remember Gotland. Simply stunning.

Lovely Four Seasons Egg Cups

I have for quite some time been looking for really handsome (4ever) egg cups – and I finally found them!

I am so happy that the Etsy store Bailey Doesn’t Bark is offering mini cups of its popular “Four Season” cup line.

I have been eying the larger cups –  but am even happier with the minis! (They work well with large eggs).

The porcelain cups are hand decorated and the decals are fired. The mini cups are microwave and dishwasher safe. A set of 4 costs $59.

My Love For Swedish Antiques

I love incorporating really old Swedish antiques with contemporary design pieces.

When visiting Sweden you will be hard pressed to find a home without at least one exquisite antique and a contemporary piece of artwork. That is how most Swedes like to decorate – by mixing several hundred year old pieces with modern elements. And it works with Swedish antiques since they are often much toned down in form, design, and color compared to some antiques from other parts of the world – without compromising the craftsmanship and quality.

Below are pieces from my own little collection.
