The Perfect Wedding Gift Dilemma

Gunilla Dear – this is not for you to read!

My lovely friend Gunilla is getting married and I am on the hunt for that perfect wedding gift. I want it to be something she and her husband to be will treasure for life – and I want them to think of us every time they use it. I am definitely going classic & functional. Now the big question is what…

(If you have any fabulous gift ideas – please speak up. I can really use your help!)

Wedding gift candidates – so far:

Elegant Champagne Flutes from Orrefors’ Avanti collection. These glasses are made of lead-free crystal by master glassblowers and cutters in Orrefors’ Swedish glassworks.

Classic and modern salad servers from the world renowned Danish designer Arne Jacobsen for Georg Jensen.

Salad plates from Royal Copenhagen (the company was established in 1775 and this is its most recent series called Fluted Mega – a contemporary twist on the classic Flute model). The plates are assembled, painted and glazed by hand.

“Nobel” linen napkins from the Swedish linen mill “Klassbols“. These napkins are being used by distinguished guests at the prestigious Nobel Banquet, held in Stockholm annually.

Am I being too conservative? Help!

Lovely Four Seasons Egg Cups

I have for quite some time been looking for really handsome (4ever) egg cups – and I finally found them!

I am so happy that the Etsy store Bailey Doesn’t Bark is offering mini cups of its popular “Four Season” cup line.

I have been eying the larger cups –  but am even happier with the minis! (They work well with large eggs).

The porcelain cups are hand decorated and the decals are fired. The mini cups are microwave and dishwasher safe. A set of 4 costs $59.

Readers’ Nest Book Shelf

How fun is this bedside companion! The “Readers’ Nest” is designed by WIS Design for the Swedish design team – David Design. It is part of the 2009 David Design Collection.

This practical book shelf stores your favorite books right next to your reading spot and by utilizing the roof top, there’s no need for “Dog Ears”. Very clever!

For questions regarding the Readers’ Nest (price, availability etc. ) contact David Design in Sweden.

Hunting For The Perfect Sconces

A pair of sconces have been missing in my foyer for 3 years now. I have neither found anything I liked nor anything that would put me back a mere $1000. I am looking for something classy, modern and somewhat unique. Now all of sudden, when I have more or less gotten used to fumbling in the dark foyer, I have bumped into a number of good candidates. Ini, Mini, Miny, Moe….

No. 1 – Chaise Sconce from Ballard Designs, $159/each.

No. 2 – Coral Sconce from Lighting Universe, $95.31/each.

No. 3 – Georgetown Wall sconce, from Lighting Universe, $277.02/each

In my dreams…..

No. 4 –  Perpignan Sconce from Decorati, (call to request quote)

And when we are out of this ugly recession/depression – maybe, just maybe, I will be able to afford:

No. 5 – The Kiki Coral Sconces (Moth design) from Decorati, (call to request quote)

I Go Nuts For These Cups

Photo: Hans Bjurling, Sweden

I think these are the most beautiful cups on the planet. The designer behind them is talented and award winning Asa Lindstrom from Sweden. She makes the cups by hand with motifs inspired by old magazines and books. The rims are made with gold.

Only 2 places in Sweden (or the world!) carry Lindstrom’s cups. Blas & Knada in Stockholm and Halingbo Creperie on Gotland (remote island in Sweden), where Asa Lindstrom resides.

I have a few cups myself but plan to keep adding to my little collection. These cups are already considered “Swedish classics” and tomorrow’s antiques. And rightfully so. They are incredibly well made and so gorgeous.

Would you not want to step in and start looking for that perfect cup to bring home?

I found this lovely image on “En mammas dag”, a great blog in Sweden. Blogger Weronica took the photo herself. She is as hooked on the cups as I am!
