Precious Photo Art

My friend Desiree is both a fun lady and a great photographer, focusing on children & families. She knows my love for good antiques and just sent me this brand new photo of an old Hungarian dough bowl (it looks like a gigantic walnut!) which she recently purchased on E-bay, and in which she carefully placed this out-of-this-world precious 11 day old old princess. People, does it get any sweeter than this!?!

To see more of her portfolio, go here.

I Like

I absolutely LOVE these colors and style combinations! Take note! Mix mix, less is more & create balance and harmony for the eye and the soul. And if you are going for color, rich muted color tones in purple, blue and green are part of the trend right now. If you want to play it safe: pick a good base color that you love and complement with a color that works well as a contrast.

I saw this one-of-a-kind yellow console table at a new, fun store in Stockholm and took some pictures myself. (I will share with you in an upcoming post). I am so in love with the old Swedish wooden plate.

The wooden bowl is moving in with me!

Leather Art

Ok, lovely Di just alerted me to these wonderful pieces from the talented Italian based designer/painter Draga Obradovic. She paints directly on fabric and leather on unique vintage pieces. It makes me want to tackle one of those vintage leather chairs – in need of some love – myself! Very inspirational.

Ikea Lovelies

Hello. I’ve missed you this past week. Last minute we scooped up the kids and headed to wonderful Bandon Oregon were we spent a week of quality time with close family. The computer Gods decided to not be on my side but in a way I am glad because I got more time to dive in sand dunes and fly kites!

On our way home I had plenty of time to browse through the new Ikea catalog. Here are a few things that caught my eye: (I am most definitely getting the gray Orchid pots this week!)

1. Alvine Flora Pillow. (Check out the latest design with yellow, black and gray flowers – not shown here). $24.99.

2. Drömmar. Horse-shaped (Swedish national symbol. A must for true Swedes!) baking tins. $6.99/set of 2.

3. Mandel plant pot. $4.99/set (pot + saucer).

4. Spraka. Spice mill. $19.99.

5. Engan chest with 2 drawers. $99.99.

6. Gunilla fabric. (Hello girlfriend Gunilla!).  How lovely this fabric would be together with white! $7.99/yards.

Dandelion Lamp

How cool is this Dandelion pendant from the Dutch design company OOMS! Of all the Dandelion lamps I have seen so far – and there are many on the market right now – I like this one the best. I have great childhood memories from Sweden sitting on the small hill in our backyard blowing the fluff from dandelion steams while listening to birds chirping. That is summer too me!

Ideas to Steal

Country Living has not been the first magazine I resort to but I have to say that the magazine has gotten better and better and I now I find it quite inspirational! Here are a few images from designer Mary Jane McCarty’s home.

Dining in a library. Different kinds of blues. Nothing matching. I like the style.

Put a nice slipcover on the antique sofa and you will both get a fresh new look and show the sofa’s original bones.

I will do anything for a good antique. Bu here is also a reminder to myself and maybe to you (!) to not forget to visit consignment stores and flea markets. Mary Jane, the owner, found this lovely table at the Salvation Army for $35! And wait to you see my own find – a fantastic wing back chair – for the same price! (I need to upholster it). You will flip!

I also love the vibrant shams on the beds in the guest bedroom (interior design by Brad Ford).

They shams + quilt are from Garnet Hill Barcelona” and I think they are pretty affordable at $40/sham. I am also eyeing the quilt. Very fresh together with white.

Eye Candy

I can’t stop thinking of this photo by talented Jaime Monfort. I can see this image over sized in a white frame hanging on a white wall above a gray painted Swedish 18th century table or a wide buffet. Nothing more is needed. Talk about drama!

Thank you Automatism for bringing it to my attention!

Lori Graham

When I flipped through the September issue of Metropolitan Home, my heart nearly stopped when I saw the lovely gray side tables from Plantation Design. Me crave! (Gray is so part of my DNA and look at that hardware!). And then I saw who the interior designer behind the room was – of course the talented Lori Graham!

The headboard is also fun and different. It is made of wood and cut in a classic 18th century English form, then lacquered in an espresso color and trimmed in stainless steel to bring it into the 21st century. Love the contrast!

I’ll take the bathroom too!

I already had this image of one of her creations – the comfy dining room – in my all fave design file. You all know that I am not a fan of stuffy, contrived rooms. This room is perfect! (And those chairs will be mine someday. Yes, they will! And I will pair them with gray.)

Her portfolio unveils many other lovely rooms and settings.

Birds In The Guest Room

For you who have been following my blog you know that I am gearing up to revamp our guest bed room. All I know right now is that it is going to be white, fresh and crisp. The accent colors are still up in the air. But this new, lovely wall paper “Emma” by talented Emma Von Brömssen for Swedish Boråstapeter will likely be featured in a small area in the room. Maybe as an extended headboard.  I love the peacocks!
