Object Of Desire

I am not a jealous person at heart. Far from it. But I am a tad envious of this fabulous Salvation Army find. This chest of drawers just makes me drool. The lucky owners have the best home for the dresser that nobody saw or wanted.  I am so going to pay a visit to a local consignment shop this weekend. Wish you all could come with me!

A Memory Wall For Postcards

I came across this photo yesterday and I just had to share it with you. (Sorry for the poor image).

I don’t know about you but I remember when postcards were a standard (and lovely!) way of sending greetings to each other. I have accumulated a lot over the years and have saved them all. But I get none, zip, nada, nowadays (and I don’t send any either!). The internet has taken the personality away from corresponding and I am the first to admit – I miss the old way! (And from now on I will be a better postcard writer).

So, for those who still have saved postcards, or maybe for you who travel and can pick up postcards from fun places around the world. Here is an awesome way of displaying them. In my opinion, this could be more important than any 6 figured art piece! (I am thinking all Swedish related for my wall).

The lamp is lovely too.

Album Art

People, I almost stopped breathing when I glanced through the magazine Living Etc and saw this photo. Madre Mia! What is wrong with me? Why has it not occurred to me that there are some really amazing illustrators and photographer behind so many classic vinyl album covers? Those LPs that are sitting in storage with layers of dust on top of them. How could I have ignored them so?!

I will IMMEDIATELY start my scavenger hunt for (to us) really meaningful album covers with amazing artwork. I will take my time to find the perfect ones. I will frame them, love them and save them for the grand kids! (Will they even understand what an LP is?)

Yeah! I can’t wait to start my little collection!

A Less Is More – Vase

I have a new fave vase that I can’t get enough of. All my fancy brand vases have been pushed aside for this simple, non expensive, versatile, handsome and modern model from Ikea! I use this Blomster vase all the time.

The roomy size (Diameter: 9 ½ “Height: 6 “), the shape and the color are all perfect and the height does not block out people on the other side of the table. Guess what – it is only $9.99! (Give your friend a vase + flowers in it – and you will be extra liked!). Each vase is hand blown and has been shaped by a skilled craftsman.

I particularly like it with a monochromatic flower color scheme. Even your average, less expensive flowers all of a sudden look costly in this handsome vase.

Art With Punched Butterflies

Last Christmas the Swedish School in Seattle, which I am part of, asked me to donate an art piece for their annual lottery. I can’t draw to save my life but I am pretty good when it comes to color and texture.

At Michael’s I found this great butterfly punch by Martha Stewart. I like it because the butterflies look more stylish than cute. Already armed with tons of good scrap booking paper, I happily started punching away.

At the frame store Aaron Brothers, I found this great deep frame (already equipped with a mat), which allowed me to play a little with the fluttery friends and raise them here and there.

I was so pleased with the outcome so I actually made another one that stays in the house!
