Stockholm Living
The styles may vary but you can be sure to find the following design elements in a Stockholm apartment:
- White. Swedes embrace gallons and gallons of white paint.
- Hardwood floors with individual rugs (we stopped using wall to wall carpeting decades ago).
- State of the art kitchens (yep, nearly all of family & friends back home have fab kitchens!).
- State of the art bathrooms.
- Books! (See my earlier post).
- A great mix of old and new. Just look at that old Swedish wood burning stove and the old beams. A true Swede will rather have no furniture at all than to get rid of historical elements.

Monika!
This space is wonderful! I love the bathroom and the roomwith the beams and Baby grand piano. It fits there perfectly. And the best thing very little clutter.Great Post!
Hey, miss exaggeration! Don’t you go fooling everyone to believe that Sweden is interior-heaven !
No, I am actually with you on this. Compared to many countries, Swedish homes are generally beautiful with state of the art kitchens and baths, and lots of classy features like moldings and stuccowork. But there are a lot of people whose homes look nothing like the pictures you’re showing!
But in general, I think that while peoples’ tastes vary, most Swedes spend a lot of time , money and effort into making their homes a beautiful place. Must be because of the fact that we spend so much time indoors during the darkest part of the year.
I love that apt, by the way!
This is my new favorite I love everything!

This is such a beautiful and warm space. Thank you for the inspiration.
I love the textures of the floors and beams and even the walls on that second to last shot – all older elements, mingling seamlessly with the more contemporary finishes – the glass tile in the bathroom, the sleek countertops and backsplash in the kitchen… I love Swedish design – always have and always will. There is something incredibly well thought-out and soothing about every Swedish interior I’ve seen. It’s the style that I come back to over and over for inspiration…

Love everything here…beautiful colors. Will come back!!!Thanks, Trish
I really do think I must have been a Swede in a former life! I embrace all of these points and could easily live in this house without changing a thing. And those fireplaces just kill me every time I see one. They are so pretty!
Alek, I am 100% certain that there is a good dose of Swedish as part of your DNA! (: – Monika
