My DIY Projects Keep Piling Up

The inspiration file is staring at me — fat and un-opened. I need more hours in the day! Hopefully when all three kiddos are settled on their yellow school buses, the day after labor day, this Mama will find some time to dig into that pile. (Yes, this will be in addition to giving three bedrooms new makeovers this fall. Can we all spell b.u.s.y!).

5 Top DIY Candidates

1. A Photo Collage with old photos somewhere in my house would be fun. (I would avoid putting tacks in them, though). (Note to Stacey: perhaps something for your old Parisian gems!).

2. Ok, how fun would this be! Anybody can lend me a studio to splash around in? I would name the art piece “Blog Stressorama Relief”. Anybody care to join me?

3. Shopping for a vintage cheese-box is in the cards. I would turn it into an unique nightstand table for the guest room (we get at lot of European, cheese loving visitors!).

4. I have several very pretty Hermes scarves handed down to me from my city chic Mom. At least one of them I should have framed. They are so decorative and in my case filled with lovely memories and Mama’s perfume.

5. Ok, I get a little excited about this. This inspires me to find a GIGANTIC (5 times bigger than this), round, vintage something (a wheel?) and attach all those pretty Holiday cards for the whole family to enjoy. (It needs to be big and easy to put those cards up or it is pretty useless in my book). I envision a REALLY fantastic display piece that is so clever that it will be used for years to come my kids will fight over it one day. Yet another reason to spend more time at antiques shops and salvage yards!

Finally, my own DIY project took me a whole 30 seconds this weekend (I told you I need more hours in a day). Two old prints attached to clipboards. Voila! A small but different touch.

Hugs to you all.

Next time you will be hearing from me, we will be CELEBRATING! You’ll see!

  • Mon – LOVE that clipboard idea! Your house must be full of unique things like that already but it sounds like you have even more plans! :) I think the idea of creating a splash painting sounds divine. Actually in general I think a girls night out with a creative element sounds really great – with cocktails along the way of course! I hear ya about the countdown to school when time will open up again!!!

Love the idea of framing the scarves! I still have some laying around. But my question is, how do they stay in the frame and not fall down. It is silk and very slippery, Any idea? Count me in if you find a studio space to splash some paint! Sounds like a fun way to get rid of stress.

  • Anci says:

Ja !! Jag vill sätta upp gamla foton (den idén ska bli av, TACK), sortera inspirationsbilder vill jag också (ska verkligen bli av !!) och att kasta färg på en vägg verkar helkul.

I so know what you mean by your inspiration pile. I have a bag of tearsheets that I want to simply put in a binder to flip through every time I need inspiration. Actually getting to find time to do the projects that I’m inspired by, that’s a whole other wack of finding time issues. AGH

  • These are all such great ideas! I loooove the cheese box, and am still kicking myself for leaving one behind – when I went back it was gone. I even knew better than to break that rule :-(

  • Oh, Mon, I hear you on this one! Ever since Pinterest started I feel like I’m pinning a new craft or DIY project I really wish to try everyday. Perhaps as fall comes I’ll spend more time indoors crafting, I did make three pairs of curtains this summer, though! :) Hope all is well with you. hugs xxx

    Hi Mon,
Love that photo collage idea…..We recently inherited so many old photos from Tom’s parents. Must give this one some extra thought and yes, I agree, no tacks in the photos.
Can hardly wait to hear your exciting news!
    Have a good week :)

  • Monika,
What great ideas! I really liked the over sized cheese box. I’ve never seen one like that but I’ll keep my eyes open and let you know if I find one. The clip board idea really works with the older prints. And last but not least, I love wall galleries and one with all black and white, old family photos would be wonderful.
Hope you can squeeze a few more hours out of the day, when you do, will you send directions as to how? :-)
    Karen

  • Oh my gosh! I have a huge list too of dyi things! Seriously, I need to find the time to do all these, they are great! I will do!

    Love, Jamie Herzlinger
