Collectively Dreaming Of A Second Home In Sweden

I have a bunch of really good Swedish friends here in Seattle. A really fun, smart and highly entertaining group of people, I must say! (Mariana and Pernilla I still can’t get over the fact that you deserted us… I miss you.). The lovely & lively, former theater maven, Sofia, just sent out a link to a house for sale in the southern parts of Sweden, that she knows very well. The hostess with the mostess, beautiful Ulrika, quickly chimed in and suggested that we all pitch in and get it as a collective “vacation home away from home”. And as with anything with these ladies, e-mails & energizing ideas quickly started flying.

Here it is. The house is 100+ years old and it goes under the name “The Main Cottage”.

It is situated in the very desirable town Bastad (top Tennis & Beach spot in Sweden).

My first reflection. Oh how fresh! The Swedes know a thing or two about keeping things light and airy. (The country is dark and cold for many months of the year, Swedes need light to get through it!). And the homes are generally easy to clean!

White is clearly a must for a Swede. White walls or white floors or both. That will be the colors for my new master bedroom. Yep. You will see).

White is so easy to add punches of color to.

View from a bedroom.

And here is “The Little Cottage”, the guest house.

I can totally see myself co-sharing this vacation home. (Who is in charge of the money collection jar, ladies?).

Happy rest of the week to everyone.

An official and warm welcome to so many new followers. My blog subscription list is growing by leaps and bounds. What an honor! Thank you. And thank you again.

Very beautiful, very Swedish yet un-Swedish interiors? Pink headboard in Bastad? Think American design is really influencing the Swedes!

    Monika,
This is such a pretty home. Thank you for explaining why so many homes I’ve viewed (located in Sweden) were decorated with mostly white. The darkness factor explains it. I really like this house with it’s punch of color here and there. I love the toile walls in the one room. I agree, you and your friends should buy this…how fun!

    Good morning sweet friend,

I tried to comment your latest blogpost but it won’t let me for some reason!

Oh dear, I want to go with you on vacation to Sweden! The cottage is stunning and oh so charming!

Everything ok there in Seattle? Is there enough sunshine at this moment? Here in Belgium we have had a couple of wonderful Spring and sunny days.

Lots of kisses and a huge warm Belgian hug!

    What a wonderful place!!
Båstad is wonderful and I spent many of my childhood Summers down there – actually in Torekov which is slightly further out on the Bjäre peninsula. Stunning part of Sweden!!

I hope your dream becomes reality. How fun Monika!!

  • Baarhgh! Like Greet, I have been having trouble leaving comments! Of all blogs I know yours can’t be anti-European! I think that I just wanted to say that I would be all to happy to live in the guest cottage. And that this post made me dream of visiting of your home country like no other. :)

With all my best from a sunny Arles,

  • as long as i get to bunk in that space with the pink headboard, i’m in, no arm twisting required.

not surprised the blog is thriving in the sunlight. mine is one of those slower growing specimens…a boxwood perhaps? no complaints. it’s all part of the plan.

  • Now, that is a fantastic idea!!! It is picture perfect and what fun your little collective would have in designing and then deciding who goes when. I think this is an idea worth pursuing.

And, if you ever want to have a blogger gathering over there, I could be persuaded. :)
    Have a wonderful weekend, Mon!
