I Spy In Stockholm — Scandinavian Eyewear

One more week in Stockholm — not a non-busy second in sight… You will get a full report of my personal Scandinavian must-buys when I return, but here is something I am taking some time to shop for this week — a pair of lovely eyeglass frames (I will add the prescription glasses at home).

All of you following my blog already know that people in Stockholm are mighty fashion conscious and into the latest trends. So no surprise here that trendy eyewear is also found everywhere. (I have never seen an entire city with so many people equipped with unique and fashionable eyeglasses!).

And of course I am extra interested in the Scandinavian brands. There are quite a few.

I intend to come home with a statement piece this time. No, nothing that blends in with my face. Nope, something funky and chic is what I am going for. Something over-sized, unisex, that stands out.

I’ve tried these aviator ones on (below) and they are high up on my list.

Skaga recently launched a retro version of, Swedish fashion trendsetter, Sighsten Herrgård’s famous glasses from the sixties. Very trendy, very Swedish.

Go to Scandinavian Eyeware to find these models and many more.

Warm hugs to you all! (And thank you so much for your wonderful support regarding the Rue Magazine segment. More (and proper!) thank you´s are coming when I get home).

My Home Featured In Rue Magazine

I am on route to Stockholm, Sweden were I will be spending a couple of weeks (and will occasionally blog from). My husband is sending out this post while I am still up in the air!

It is an honor for me to share with you that today my home is featured in the latest issue of the oh-so-fabulous Rue Magazine. I can hardly believe it myself. Bloggers and magazine founders extraordinaire Anne Sage and Crystal Gentilello felt that my home in Seattle would be something for their readers and asked if I wanted to open my doors for them. I am beyond thrilled. This is the first time a design magazine has featured my home — ever! And what a magazine!

Another fabulous blogger and Rue magazine contributor (and good friend!), MacKenzie Horan, spear headed the text.

Thank you all! It has been such a pleasure working with you and I am so looking forward to meeting you all in person one day soon.

For the article Rue sent over the super talented Seattle-NY photographer Dorothee Brand with Belathee Photography who spent a day at my house and made my home look fantastic from angles I had not even discovered myself! (She is a gem).

Here is a sample of a few images from the photo shoot.

Please, visit HERE to read the full article. (Page +158).

I can’t wait to land in Stockholm and read the article myself. It’s a little surreal (really, my home?!) but what a fun experience! I am very grateful.

Warm hugs to you all.

I Am Off To Sweden

I have a family situation in Sweden that requies my full attention. I have started to pack my bags and will leave for Stockholm this weekend.

For the next couple of weeks I will be posting straight from Stockholm. My blogging will necessarily be sporadic so I hope that you all will understand.

On a positive note I am going to be with family and friends and during my stay and I will make sure that I carve out a little bit of personal time for fun things and a serious dose of Swedish inspiration. And I can’t wait to bring that back to you!

For those of you who are interested in seeing something US related in Stockholm — take a look at Google’s offices in Stockholm. With Swedish cottages, birch trees and everything! I feel very blessed to have both countries and cultures in my daily life.

Warm hugs. I will be thinking of all of you.

Next time you will hear from me I will be in my old home town.

My Latest Love

I am sorry to disappoint you all — it is not a lovely piece of furniture or a new chic outfit or adorable pup. It is something as un-sexy as a window cleaning gadget. Yes, really!

In two days a photo shoot is taking place at my house (a first for me – yikes!) for a chic design magazine. It has put me in over-drive.

Usually I hire someone to clean my windows but this time I decided to attack them myself. So on Mother’s Day, when many of you were busy celebrating, I sent hubby and the kids to the Swedish school (which they attend once a week) and then I marched down to the local hardware store and came back with  the “Ettore Window Wand Combo” and a rectangular bucket.

The best investment ever! Yes, I can personally testify that this gadget made window cleaning fun and so easy. (This is not a paid advertorial. This is my very personal opinion). ABC, three strokes with the sponge, then turn the gadget and 1, 2, 3 and the squeegee instantly took care of all the access water and left the windows crystal clear without one single streak!  (I use simple  organic dish detergent). I am totally smitten with this gadget which makes me look like & feel the most perfect housewife (Ha!). I was purring like a cat the rest of Mother’s Day! (I am obviously easy to please).

Speaking of love, I want to distribute some extra love to my good blog friend Claudia with Stonehouse Love who just launched her first on-line store – Hey Little Diddle. Congratulations my friend! The store looks wonderful! (All the items are made by indie designers and artisans).

Here you will find all kinds of lovely things for the young ones.

Hop over and see for yourselves (here).

I am off to fluff pillows and figure out where I can hide hubby and three messy kids until it’s over… I hope to give you a photo-shoot update soon.

Warm hugs to you all!

Swedish Summer Home Dreams

It is May people, summer is around the corner and this it when I start dreaming about a second home in Sweden. It is not in the cards right now but my wonderful husband is convinced it is going to happen in our lifetime! And if he says so… (!). Winter time I dream about a city apartment in Stockholm and this time of the year I am lusting for something light and airy with a view. Just came across these lovely homes in Sweden.

The Swedes are, in my opinion, masters at embracing light (for many months they must make do with very little or none at all) and making living less complicated. And the love and respect for mother nature is part of the Swedish DNA. Just look at  the earthy colors and organic materials in these images and so synonymous with Swedish design. (You won’t find a lot of plastic here…).

This is a boat house with its upper floor converted into a guest suite. Not so shabby!

Here is a brave Swede who added a touch of color to go with all that fresh white!

And speaking of Mother Nature. Here is a summer DIY project for you. I have seen tree trunk turned side tables in the past. But nothing as grand as this one and on wheels! I know what I will be hunting for this season (hoping to find something similar in the woods). Admit that you are tempted too!

I don’t know about you but my week has been insanely busy. I am trying very hard to keep up with everything and everyone but 24 hours/day only takes me so far… I hope to come up for air soon.

Warm hugs to you all!
